North Carolina Gold Festival
Every town has its own story of how it struck gold in the good ol’ days. In 2004, the loyal citizens of North Carolina formed the North Carolina Gold Festival to promote, educate and preserve the state’s gold heritage. And this year, the festival, to commemorate the discovery of gold in California, will take place on April 18 and 19, 2008 at Tom Johnson’s Rally Park on Highway 70.
The festival includes a schedule of events that makes way for derbies, entertainment, gold panning, treasure hunting, food and live bands. With over three thousand attendees, the festival welcomes one and all!
The festival kicks off on Friday the 18th at noon. If you’re heading to North Carolina during this time, don’t miss this event. It’ll be a fun adventure for the whole family and in this state you will find that “all that glitters is gold”.

April 25 is ANZAC Day.. Let us remember..
Don’t be surprised to see poppies flowering in the stores, or even decorated along the streets. On the month of April, the people of New Zealand (and even Australia) will remember ANZAC day.
This is an occasion that people, every year, pay tribute and remember. ANZAC stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps, these members landed at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War. It is a public holiday in some parts of the world like the Cook Islands, Samoa and many more.
The Dawn Parades and other commemoration or memorials nationwide are attended by the local community, as well as the uniformed community service groups.
ANZAC Day promotes a sense of unity for everyone. Paper poppies are given away and worn as symbols of remembrance. The day is a half-day holiday in New Zealand, as per the Anzac Day Act 1966. But this is not only a remembrance of war, it is also a celebration of life for many!

Anvil Shooting Festival
What’s interesting in Laurel,Mississippi in April? The all-time festival state: The Anvil Shooting Festival. It’s a bit bizarre, but for the people of Mississippi, it’s all fun!
The annual event at Laurel’s Wood Expo held every April dates back to the Civil War when the Yanks came through the South destroying all of the metal works. They’d put gun powder underneath the anvils and try to blow them up. And up they went, up in the air. Now, from this historical event, sprouts a bizarre festival that everyone loves and enjoys!
If you wish to join the event, the rules are simple. The anvils must be made of steel and weigh at least 100 lbs. Not more than 2 pounds of black powder can be used to blast that anvil in the air. There are two classes in the event, the Traditional and the Super Modified. In the Traditional class, shooters use real, antique anvils and shot the traditional way. Some anvils shot the traditional may reach heights up to 100 feet, but for some that’s not high enough, now that’s the Super-Modified category.
But here’s something you should know: No one has ever been crushed by a falling anvil and no one has ever lost an arm to the explosive blasts.
Don’t miss out on this explosive event when touring around the Deep South!
